I sometimes have trouble motivating myself to do chores. Fortunately, I've discovered Chore Wars. Finally those pesky chores can give me something useful... like experience points and bubbly potions!
Chore Wars is a fun way of keeping track of what tasks are getting done and who is doing them. Each chore is restyled as a quest. You can customize the nature of the quest, the rewards, and the monsters you might run into. In our house, writing a blog post gives you 45 experience, up to 15 gold, and a 55% chance of running into a Mischievous Sprite, Malware, or Forum Troll!
While the virtual items and gold don't have any inherent value, they could be collected and exchanged for real life treats (like an Ice Cream date or movie time). Each person can get a character badge (like the one under my "About Me") to put on their blog or website. Every group also gets an RSS feed that lists the completed quest.
It is quite a clever idea, check it out!

PS - My copy of Chesterton's "Orthodoxy" has gone missing, and I can't write my next Response to Gaming Matters post until I find it. Meh.

Oh my, that is so clever & fun! I'll have to check it out for sure!
It's no fair that you can't post again on the gaming issues. I've been wanting to read more. :)
Have no fear, I will post more on the gaming issues. I just need to find my copy of the book first :)
I came across this about a year ago, thought it was a great idea, and then promptly forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder.
Well you may never hear from me again, because I am probably going to get lost in the chore wars world! ;) Please be sure and alert Plugged in dot com.

PS~ I loved what you said about feeling relaxed or worse after playing. I think that is a great litmus test for myself.
